Hotwire Travel Geek and Director of Media, Scott Russell, shares how he “won” Mother’s Day last year.
It’s really hard to find unique gifts for my wife, especially on Mother’s Day. Last year, my wife was very busy with work and was truly in need of a weekend away to recharge. So, the kids and I decided that for Mother’s Day we would give her a surprise weekend staycation away from home to enjoy some “me” time on her special day.
Since I work for Hotwire, I knew that booking last-minute worked to my advantage, so four days before Mother’s Day weekend I booked a Hot Rate® Hotel for two nights in an amazing 4.5 star hotel in downtown Seattle. Since the cost of the room was under $200 a night, I was able to use part of the money I saved to also buy her an in-room massage for some extra pampering. Win-win! The kids and I stayed home and told her to completely disconnect for the weekend. She loved the hotel and the massage, and came home completely refreshed (the house was pretty clean too!).
Needless to say, I totally won Mother’s Day last year. In fact, everything went so well, I’m thinking about repeating the same gift for this year.
