How to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day

Anyone can slap some cheese on a few pieces of white bread and fry it up in butter to make a pretty serviceable grilled cheese. Some might even choose to get fancy by using different types of cheese, rustic bread or pressing it on a griddle. In honor of National Grilled Cheese Day, we think the best way to celebrate is to let the pros take over.

Food & Wine has put together a list of the 22 best grilled cheese sandwiches across the United States, including concoctions like “The Mousetrap” in San Francisco (designed by an MIT engineering grad, no less) the “Cheesy Mac and Rib Sandwich” offered by an LA food truck (macaroni and cheese IN A SANDWICH? Yes, please!) and a local Houston favorite involving fresh mozzarella and feta cheeses on ciabatta bread, plus sun-dried tomatoes, Kalamata olives and basil.
