Parents, kids, grandparents, cousins and the family dog…are we missing anyone!? Multigenerational travel has become increasingly popular over the last few years, and for good reason! It’s so much fun to get the whole family together, but before taking off for some quality family bonding, there are a few important things to keep in mind to ensure everyone has a good time.
We’ve rounded up our top three tips for taking advantage of travel with the whole family, especially with multiple generations involved.
- Make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy: When traveling with a big group that has diverse interests, ages and activity levels, try to ensure your destination has enough things to do to make it fun for the whole family. One way to make sure everyone is on-board and excited is by getting the whole family to participate in the research (and agree!) on the destination before you even get book your flight.
- Depending on the length of your trip, have everyone “take” a day: If you don’t want to take responsibility for planning every activity throughout your vacation, ask everyone to take ownership of a day and plan an activity for the group. Not only will it spread the love, but everyone will get a chance to enjoy what they want to and feel like they contributed to the trip in a big way.
- It’s OK to break off into small groups: If you’re going on a longer vacation, it’s actually better to space out the activities. If you want to sneak away in the evening to read a book or enjoy your morning cup of coffee by the pool, feel free to take advantage of those alone moments. After all, it’s your vacation, too!
